INTERNAL MEDICINE
Our Services
We are a family medicine and internal medicine based practice. This gives us the flexibility to conduct studies in a broad spectrum of therapeutic fields. Here at Savin Medical Group Research Center, we also have board certified specialists associated with our practice which serve as co-investigators and consultants.
Our clinical research often involve patients with specific health conditions who then benefit from receiving otherwise unavailable treatments.
Usually, to gain proper insights for design of the clinical trial to follow, one or more pilot experiments are conducted. Effectiveness, as defined in the medical jargon, is how well a treatment works in practice and efficacy is how well it works in clinical trial.
The sponsor decides what to compare the new agent with (one or more existing treatments or a placebo), in coordination with a panel of expert investigators – which are usually well-known physicians that have publications and clinical experience – and also, what kind of patients might benefit from the treatment or device. In the event that the sponsor cannot get enough patients with the specific disease or condition required from one location, investigators at another location who can acquire the same kind of patients to receive treatment would be recruited to join the study.
During the clinical trial, investigators recruit patients with the predetermined characteristics and administer the treatment(s), and collect data on the patients’ health for a defined time period. These patients are volunteers and they are not paid for participating in clinical trials. These data include measurements like vital signs, concentration of the study drug in the blood, and whether the patient’s health improves or not. The researchers send the data to the trial sponsor, who then analyzes the pooled data using statistical tests.

Why volunteer for a clinical trial?
There are a variety of reasons why people choose to volunteer for clinical trials, some may include learning if symptoms could be related to a certain medical condition, gaining more insight about a diagnosis, interested in an alternative treatment or just simply needing to seek care in the absence of a health insurance or wanting to have a second opinion. Whatever the reason may be, at Savin Medical Group Research Center we provide a conducive environment for advancement of medical learning and continuous support for the afflicted.
Volunteering to participate in a clinical research study is one of the best ways you can help add to the understanding of a certain disease which may be affecting someone you love. Medical research aids the medical community and physicians to gain a better understanding about various diseases and how to treat them. This may be in the form of cutting edge treatments that have not been tried previously or the effectiveness of one drug as it compares to another. Volunteering to participate in these research studies takes time and commitment and the people who take part in these studies are brave and selfless individuals who contribute greatly to the medical community. Taking part in these researches can bring you not just self-fulfillment but also a sense of pride and achievement.
